One of the
biggest challenges for a provider is finding the appropriate way to
collect patient debts. Recent media stories have put the spotlight on
firms and hospitals seen as overly aggressive in collections. The latter
have also had a delicate balancing act between preserving community
image and mission, providing appropriate levels of charity care and the
bottom line.
Current issues include Collecting patient debt while maintaining a
strong community image and maintaining goodwill; and using a third party
to manage patient accounts and patient finance issues while preserving
the desired community image for the provider.

Rick Tsupros,
President,
Match Point Solutions
|
|
Mr. Tsupros is the president and primary delivery
professional for Match Point Solutions Inc., an
Indianapolis-area company delivering revenue cycle and
contact center operations consulting to the healthcare
industry.
He has 35 years of business experience; serving as a human
resource professional, internal process improvement officer,
and an executive with P&L accountability. He has worked in
multiple industries including insurance, healthcare,
financial services, transportation, travel and retail. This
broad level of experience has given Mr. Tsupros the ability
to apply best practices crossing traditional industry
boundaries, and uses this expertise to deliver added value
to his clients.
Six years ago he observed the growing trend for patients to
assume an increasing share of their healthcare expenses and
realized this trend would adversely impact provider cash
flow, bad debt expense and patient satisfaction. This trend,
along with government and media attention on healthcare
costs, collections practices and charity has placed
additional demands on the health care industry to implement
more effective and efficient solutions to the self-pay
collections process. For the past five years Mr. Tsupros has
focused his practice exclusively on helping providers deal
with this very real yet sensitive issue by assessing current
processes and implementing solutions to improve cash
collections and reduce operating overhead and bad debt
expense.
