Avoiding Pitfalls in Medicare Part D Implementation
An audioconference on Thursday, June
30th, 2005, 1:00-2:30 PM Eastern (10:00-11:30 AM Pacific)
Formularies have been submitted. Competitive bids are in. Now it's time to focus on implementing Part D and preparing for launch of these products in November 2005. We invite you to join John Gorman, President Gorman Health Group, to learn how best to avoid pitfalls in implementing Medicare Part D. This session will highlight major issues involved in operationalizing Medicare Part D for Medicare Advantage plans and Prescription Drug-only Plans, including the auto-enrollment of dual eligibles and low-income beneficiaries, the beneficiary lock-in/lock-out, coordination of benefits, TrOOP reporting, and the like.

John Gorman will discuss the major challenges in the months ahead as Part D sponsors focus their attention on implementation and launch of PDPs and MA-PDs. This audioconference will cover:
Marketing and sales of Part D products, including Implications of the beneficiary lock-in/lock-out: what to do with the sales and marketing team when they can't sell to most beneficiaries for most of the year?
Beneficiary premium billing and reconciliation concerns in light of low-income subsidies and late enrollment penalties: what are the implications of most beneficiaries in your plan having different premiums?
Coordination of benefits and subrogation issues: the complexity of COB gets worse with Medicare coverage of a drug benefit.
Copayment issues: how can copays be handled accurately when most pharmacists don't bother doing eligibility look-ups?
Fraud and abuse, compliance and vendor (especially PBM) oversight considerations: from member drug-seeking behaviors to drug hording to misrepresentation of the credentials of P&T Committee members, a Medicare plan's responsibilities in this area are complex and wide-ranging.
