ABSTRACT
HealthcareData.com, LLC (HDC), a leading NCQA-licensed compliance audit organization, will discuss the HEDIS Compliance Audit process from the perspective of someone who has been involved with HEDIS since July 1995 (HEDIS 2.0) and has directed as well as performed audits since 1998. Paul T. Mertel, Jr., Ph.D., CHCA, was certified as a HEDIS auditor in November of
1998 and has directed the HEDIS audit program at HDC since the company was granted its license in January 1999. Over the past six years, HDC has audited more than 270 MCOs and validated more than 350 submission files.
As HEDIS auditing has matured and licensed firms have gained valuable experience, the audit process has become something of a standardized commodity. The role of vendors in this process has likewise expanded and matured, along with additional reporting requirements that impact the MCO’s reporting capabilities. In the conference, Dr. Mertel will provide a basic primer on the HEDIS audit process and changes that have occurred in the audit process. He will discuss the expanding role of vendors in HEDIS reporting, particularly the use of NCQA-certified software vendors.
Additional topics will include a review of the audit calendar and timeframes as they relate to key reporting activities, maximizing the use of HEDIS results to reduce the cost of producing your HEDIS Report, and improving accreditation scores, plus a brief overview of changes in auditing and reporting for HEDIS 2005. There will be ample time at the end of the session for questions on HEDIS compliance auditing or other areas of interest.
