ABSTRACT

With healthcare costs continuing to rise, health plans and insurers nationwide have been forced to seek out innovative alter natives to complement traditional product portfolios. Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) proved to be an innovative alternative to conventional health coverage, providing a vehicle for tax-advantaged savings that can be funded by individuals, employers and employees. Building on its extensive experience with Medical Savings Accounts (MSAs - an early incarnation of HSAs), Assurant Health was able to enter the HSA market immediately.

Curtis R. Palmer
Senior Vice President, Consumer Solutions, DST Health Solutions, Inc.

With 25 years of experience in health care and employee benefits, Curt Palmer serves as DST Health Solutions' Senior Vice President of Consumer Solutions. In this role, Palmer is responsible for oversight and strategic development of the company's industry-leading consumer-directed healthcare programs and administration solutions.

Palmer was most recently the Vice President of Account Management for Evolution Benefits, an early entrant into the consumer directed healthcare market. He helped pioneer the development of Evolutions Benefits' debit card products and services. Prior to Evolution Benefits, Palmer was a national sales executive for Healtheon/WebMD. Palmer began his career with CIGNA HealthCare where he held key positions in underwriting, benefits consulting and national/large account marketing.

Palmer is a 1980 graduate of Dartmouth College with a B.A. in Political Science. Palmer is a native of Connecticut and makes his home there with his wife and two sons.


Pete Bacon
VP Business Alliances, Assurant Health

Pete Bacon is a CPA and has held numerous roles at Assurant Health. He is in charge business development for the past two years. This position is focusing on financial services and retail companies. He previously was in charge of Provider Networks, National Accounts, Negotiations' unit, Pharmacy, and Horizon Health. Pete previously worked at United HealthCare, Wisconsin Health Organization, and KPMG Peat Marwick.
