When multiple manufacturers produce products that provide the same clinical results, utilization is a result of price and marketing strategy. With the advent of popular brand name drugs losing patent protection, employers and other payers are facing an unprecedented opportunity to manage costs. This presentation will review some of the drugs that have recently become available in their generic form and identify emerging management strategies. We will address some of the most frequently asked questions such as formulary status, claim pricing methodology such as MAC and discounts, rebates, and quality controls.

MEET THE SPEAKER

Bridget Eber, Pharm.D., Towers Perrin

Bridget Eber, Pharm.D.

Bridget is the National Pharmacy Practice leader for Towers Perrin, a global human resource consulting firm. Located in Chicago, she has a diverse background in pharmacy practice with experience that spans 30 years. Her first 15 years concentrated on clinical practice in teaching hospitals followed by three years in managed care administration for a large national health plan. Since 1997, she has been consulting in employee health care benefits. Prior to joining Towers Perrin, she founded and then led the National Pharmacy Practice at a global outsourcing and consulting firm.

Bridget has pioneered a number of pharmacy management strategies that were innovative at the time but are now considered commonplace: implementation of "closed" formularies, step therapy programs, price transparency, and alignment of cost and quality management incentives. She sees pharmacy management as an integral component of condition management, consumerism, and retiree health care benefits. A frequent speaker at seminars and conferences in the U.S. and abroad, Bridget is often quoted in the business and trade press. In addition, she has published several articles and served as an expert resource to the investor community, pharmaceutical manufacturers and government agencies. She holds B.S. and Pharm. D. degrees from the University of Illinois.
