Overview

ACOs are like the weather – everyone is talking about them, but action on them often remains hazy.

“ACOs: A Midwest Perspective” has been constructed to take the dialogue about accountable care organizations to the next level. On Thursday June 2 at noon, Central time, it will provide information on what has been accomplished to date in building ACOs in the region, relevant hospital and physician regional marketplace issues, how ACOs will function in the region, and what potential roadblocks or difficulties may be on the horizon.

This one hour session, featuring Pendulum President & CEO Bill DeMarco and Dean Health System CEO Dr. Craig Samitt, will address topics including:
  • ACO health plan initiatives such as BCBS Illinois contract with the Advocate Physician Partners joint venture
  • Exclusive bundling payment programs, such as under the Advocate and BCBS IL arrangement
  • Implications of CMS proposed ACO regulations for Midwest stakeholders
  • Current hospital consolidation implications in markets such as Chicago and Detroit
  • Physician networks with multiple markets in the region
  • Physician owned Accountable Care Organizations
  • Managing rural and urban physician groups in the ACO environment
  • Dean Health System's perspective on ACO development and relevant Dean programs and initiatives
